P Jett Lawrence’s 2025 Supercross ended Saturday night in Glendale, Arizona. Shortly after the start of the third main event, the Australian rider, recovering from a locked steering wheel, put his foot on the ground and unfortunately an unnatural twisting of the knee resulted.
JL immediately left the track holding the joint and headed to the Alpinestars mobile clinic. At first, after the acute pain phase, which did not bode well, the knee did not appear to have any abnormalities in terms of stability but, as a precaution, Jett underwent an MRI yesterday .
And here is the news that no one would ever have wanted to receive: torn anterior cruciate ligament and partially affected meniscus. Stop necessary? Usually six months. Jett will be operated on today, Tuesday 4 February, and will then begin the long rehabilitation phase.
Will we see him on the track at the first National? It is difficult to give an answer to this question. Lawrence will definitely be back during the summer but, maybe, in mid-May, for the very first outdoors, no.
Can history repeat itself twenty-one years later? It was 2004 when Ricky Carmichael did not race Supercross due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Once healed, he lined up behind the gates of the Nationals, with the CRF450 R, winning all the heats. His second perfect season a year after the first. A scenario that has several similarities with Jett’s.
Honda HRC will be racing Hunter Lawrence this weekend in Tampa , and technically Chance Haymas , of whom there has been no news since January. The very young rider, after undergoing surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament, seems to have disappeared from social media. Complications in sight or just everything planned for a comeback with a bang?
