Alpine skiing icon Lindsey Vonn provided a “sobering” update from her hospital bed on February 11, 2026, revealing that she has undergone her third successful surgery in just one week. Following a catastrophic crash during the Olympic downhill in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Vonn was diagnosed with a complex tibia fracture in her left leg—an injury so severe it required an external metal fixator to stabilize the bone.
“Success today has a completely different meaning than it did a few days ago,” Vonn wrote in a poignant Instagram post showing her leg in a bulky frame. While she described her progress as slow, the 41-year-old champion expressed deep gratitude for the medical staff at Ca’ Foncello Hospital and the global “outpouring of love”. Despite the physical toll, Vonn remains a steadfast supporter of her teammates, cheering on Team USA from her hospital room as she begins a recovery process expected to take nearly a year
