Netflix has officially announced the upcoming release of a highly anticipated multi-part documentary series chronicling the rise, legacy, and enduring influence of the legendary Allman Brothers Band. Slated for release in the fall of 2025, the series promises to deliver a definitive look at one of the most iconic Southern rock bands in music history.
Titled “Midnight Riders: The Story of the Allman Brothers Band”, the series will explore the band’s origins in the late 1960s, their meteoric rise to fame, the tragedies that struck at their peak, and the profound impact they had on American music. Featuring never-before-seen archival footage, rare photos, and candid interviews with surviving members, friends, collaborators, and industry insiders, the documentary will span more than five decades of music and memories.
The Allman Brothers Band, formed in 1969 by brothers Duane and Gregg Allman, became known for their electrifying live performances, genre-defying sound, and deep musical chemistry. Blending rock, blues, jazz, and country, the band helped pioneer the Southern rock genre and gained a dedicated following with albums like At Fillmore East, Eat a Peach, and Brothers and Sisters.
Netflix described the series as “a raw and intimate journey through triumph, heartbreak, and musical genius,” emphasizing the emotional weight of the band’s story—from the tragic deaths of founding members Duane Allman and Berry Oakley, to the group’s numerous breakups and reunions, and their final performance in 2014.
Directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Liz Garbus and produced in collaboration with the Allman Brothers Band’s estate, Midnight Riders will include in-depth interviews with Gregg Allman (recorded before his death in 2017), Jaimoe, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, and many other key figures. Musicians influenced by the band—such as Eric Clapton, John Mayer, and Susan Tedeschi—are also expected to appear.
“This is more than a music documentary,” Garbus said in a statement. “It’s about brotherhood, loss, redemption, and the soul of American music.”
Fans of the band and music historians alike are already buzzing with excitement, viewing the series as a long-overdue tribute to a group that shaped a generation of sound. With its rich storytelling and musical depth, Midnight Riders is poised to be a standout addition to Netflix’s growing catalog of music documentaries.
Midnight Riders: The Story of the Allman Brothers Band is set to premiere globally on Netflix in October 2025. A full trailer is expected to drop later this summer.
