Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has announced a ban on convoy movements and public gatherings across the state, citing security concerns. However, the move is widely seen as an attempt to prevent celebrations for the homecoming of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The ban was announced in a statement on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo. According to the government, intelligence reports indicated plans by certain individuals to stage violent rallies under the guise of political and religious agitations.
As part of the measures, the government has:
Prohibited all rallies and public gatherings until further notice.
Restricted security convoys entering the state, requiring prior clearance from relevant authorities.
Suspended fishing activities in Kogi Local Government Area following a crisis that claimed two lives.
Deployed security personnel to maintain law and order.
